Protecode Introduces Enhanced Reporting Capabilities within Protecode System 4
The rise of Google’s (News

Flexibility, participation and, most importantly, freedom from paying a single penny makes the open source software products a much more favored option than the proprietary products for the consumers. While some time back a common user wasn’t much aware of how powerful the open source solutions could prove to be, the success of Mozilla’s (News - Alert) web products, Joomla!’s content management system and Linux based operating systems has contributed a lot in generating overall awareness about the platform.
Protecode Inc., a provider of open source adoption and management solutions, has announced the inclusion a number of new reporting capabilities, workflow enhancements and integration with additional development platforms within its Protecode (News - Alert) System 4, which marks the completion of the open source software license management solutions suite by the company. With the new developments, Protecode System 4 will now leverage the Protecode Enterprise Server to establish policies, manage users and groups and handle all the vital stages of a quality open source software adoption and management plan.
Code Administrator module within the Protecode System 4 implements a package request and approval process within an organization, which boots the interactive process between development and project management or legal groups. Further, the Enterprise Analyzer executes a base line scan of the existing content, and also assesses content shipped to market or received from external parties as well.
The Library Auditor feature of the Protecode System 4 enables analysis of software in repositories on check-in and Developer Assistant for analysis at the developer’s desktop, while the Library Auditor has now been integrated with the Git version control system to allow the enterprises carry out real-time analysis and management of software attributes. With the help of Git, various other platform integration capabilities of System 4 such as SVN, Perforce, and IBM (News

“New capabilities in Protecode’s System 4 simplify usage, and reduce manual effort involved in a structured open source software adoption process,” commented Ankur Mehrotra, managing director at Meteonic Innovation, India. “Protecode is making it easy for organizations to leverage open source code by reducing their development efforts, increasing development velocity, and eliminating risks.”
The company will offer a demonstration of the Protecode System 4 at Open Source (News - Alert) India at the NIMHANS Convention Center in Bengaluru during November 20, 2011 and November 22, 2011.
In August 2011, Protecode Inc. announced several major enhancements to the Protecode System 4 license management software that enabled support for the Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) standard and also included a package pre-approval workflow application, named Code Administrator.
