Adams County Selects Amcom for Next-Generation 911 IP Technology
January 13, 2010
A 911 call needs to quick and easy as the caller will be facing an emergency. The advancements in technology have helped the 911 call facilities to be improved over the last few years. Now, Amcom Software announced that Adams County, Indiana, is successfully fielding 3,500 monthly calls with the Amcom 911 call center solution.
Important government communication systems require speed and accuracy, but also a system with 24/7 stability. Amcom has been providing communication solutions to government agencies for more than 20 years. It includes federal agencies, school districts, and local public safety answering points.
To handle 911 calls from wireless and IP phones, the team at Adams County incorporated an IP-based network. This forward-looking infrastructure effectively prepares them to handle anticipated changes in the way people contact 911. This includes the use of 911 text messages and videos, states the company.
“With the advances in IP and wireless technology taking place, there is a seismic shift happening in the way 911 calls need to be handled,” said Chris Heim, CEO, Amcom Software. “The technology behind the scenes has to exchange information quickly to allow for fast response to the caller’s exact location. Adams County is clearly ahead of the game in its combination of our solution with an IP network.”
The officials at Adams County, Indiana believe that the combined Amcom 911 call center system and underlying IP network has taken the inefficiency out of the process for managing and responding to 911 calls. While the county can now position its center to incorporate functionality such as accepting text and video messages down the road, it can simultaneously provide faster assistance to each caller.
Recently, the company announced the receipt of a significant investment from Minneapolis investors Norwest Equity Partners and Split Rock Partners (News - Alert). The funding is expected to support the company’s ongoing mission to deliver unified communications software solutions designed to save lives and reduce costs. Amcom Software was purchased by Heim and business partner Dan Mayleben in 2007.
