Brocade Intros New Switches
By Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributor
Data center networking solutions vendor Brocade Communications Systems Inc has unveiled a new set of IP products, including a ServerIron ADX family of Layer 4-7 switches, that the company says will revolutionize application delivery.
Officials from the company say the application switches target service providers and enterprises who are scrambling to weather the economic storm by strengthening data centers and cutting operating cost.
It’s the first time Brocade has brought new IP networking products to the market after buying Foundry Networks (News - Alert) a year ago. Analysts say the ServerIron ADX Series is designed for the evolving “dynamic data center.”
“With its ability to manage multiple applications behind a single application delivery controller, IT administrators can benefit from the simplified operational environment it delivers,” says Katie Trippet, analyst for Synergy Research Group.
In the area of application delivery, Brocade’s (News - Alert) new ServerIron ADX is designed to scale performance and density as data centers and content demands grow.
According to Guru Pangal, Brocade’s vice president of product development, the switches are designed to help service providers and enterprises maximize the value of their IT investments, and benefit from industry-leading performance per price, per rack unit and per watt.
The switches come in three configurations: ServerIron ADX 1000 (1U fixed form factor), ServerIron ADX 4000 (4U chassis) and ServerIron ADX 8000 (8U chassis).
Brocade says the new products offer high-density 1 Gigabit Ethernet and 10G Ethernet capabilities, and twice the density of competitors, with 70G bps of Layer 4 and 7 application throughput.
As all the switches are connected with applications from Microsoft, Oracle/BEA (News - Alert), deploying them requires no much cost.
In the press release, Brocade has cited a statement from Saas-based secure web gateway vendor Purewire, which has selected Brocade for an end-to-end networking solution for its internal and customer offering production networks. “Using Brocade as the cornerstone of our IP network allows us to focus on protecting customer business and social interactions on the Web, “said Paul Judge, chief technology officer and co-founder at Purewire.
