Infoblox Virtual Software Module Available on Cisco AXP

Infoblox announced that its virtual software module is now available on the Cisco application extension platform (AXP) for the Cisco (News - Alert) integrated services router (ISR).
Infoblox is a provider of appliance-based platforms for robust core network services such as domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment (DHCP), and IP address management (IPAM).
This latest announcement allows enterprises to take advantage of these core network services on the Cisco ISR. Company officials said that the solution is ideal for distributed companies like retail, healthcare and manufacturing verticals with multiple branch offices, requiring local survivability and automation of core network services at those sites.
The automated core network services—configured by hand and tracked with spreadsheets—provide an essential foundation for transition from a static network to a dynamic infrastructure. Officials said that the infrastructure can automatically adjust to movement of users and servers.
For data center and branch offices, this is critical to support advance applications like virtualization and cloud computing, said officials.
“For delivery and management of core network services at the branch office, companies that have already standardized on Cisco's ISR for branch routing can easily add Infoblox's (News - Alert) virtual software to the system,” said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy.
This can be especially useful for companies that consider local survivability and automation at the branch their high priority, said Oltsik.
The company’s core network services platform in combination with the Cisco ISR can provide companies the dynamic infrastructure necessary to support their new system, end point and IT initiatives, said Richard Kagan, vice president of marketing at Infoblox.
The integration of Infoblox's technology with Cisco Integrated Services Routers, Rahul Tripathi, director for access routing technology at Cisco, said they can provide local survivability of services like DNS, DHCP and IPAM at the branch office, reduce footprint and operational costs. In addition, it can also optimize the network for greater visibility and control.
“In teaming with Infoblox, customers with millions of Cisco ISRs are provided with intelligent core network services that will help drive their transition to an even more automated and dynamic branch office offering,” said Tripathi.
Currently, the Infoblox virtual software for the Cisco ISRs is available from Infoblox's global network of channel partners, according to the company.
Last year in September, Infoblox launched its new bloxTools environment, which enables users to develop, support and share custom applications that adapt company’s solutions to custom requirements.
