Bytemobile Opens New Center for R&D Development in China
September 03, 2009
Bytemobile (News - Alert), Inc., a major player in mobile Internet solutions for network operators, has opened a new center for research and development in Beijing, China. Company officials said that to start with the new R&D center will focus on product customization, localization and custom engineering for the world’s largest market for mobile services.
Officials said R&D also maintains centers in Patras, Greece; Mountain View, California; and Champaign, Illinois.
The Chinese industry estimates, the country’s wireless market presently numbers nearly 700 million users and is growing at approximately 1.25 million users per month.
Bytemobile’s customer base includes China’s three largest wireless network operators – China Mobile (News - Alert), China Telecom and China Unicom.
In July 2009, Bytemobile announced that it had been awarded Phase 1 of China Mobile’s nationwide Web Gateway (News - Alert) project on its new 3G TD-SCDMA network.
“The new Beijing R&D center underscores a commitment to our customer base in China and our plans to accelerate Bytemobile’s momentum there,” said Chris Koopmans, vice president of product development, in a statement.
Koopmans said that as the company continues to penetrate the provincial operators of the country’s three leading networks, demand for localization and customization of the company’s solutions continues to grow.
“Now, with an R&D presence in China, we are strongly positioned to anticipate and respond to the market’s unique requirements and drive our thought leadership throughout the region,” he said.
He was of the opinion that maintaining global R&D operations is a core strategy, which enables Bytemobile to tap local pools of technical talent and keep its engineers close to customers, which is critical to market leadership and continuous innovation.
Back in July, Bytemobile had announced the general availability of widget applications for Widget Bar, an optional application of its Web Fidelity Suite software.
The new widget applications enable operators to enhance the user experience by simplifying web browsing on any handheld device.
The Widget Bar solution adds further user value through the delivery of external content and applications, which provides operators with a foundation for new, mutually beneficial relationships with content providers.
