Real Software Updates Real Studio with 42 New Features and 184 Improvements

June 22, 2011

Real Software, a provider of cross-platform software development tools for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and the Web, announced the latest version of Real Studio.

Updating both the Web and desktop editions, the new Real Studio 2011 Release 2 contains 42 new features and 184 improvements.

With this new version from Real Software, developers will have the ability to create scalable and responsive cross-platform applications without hassles, while improving development and application performance.

The new version has HTML5 features like WebSockets, GeoLocation and WebMoviePlayer as well as JSON support. Real Studio 2011 Release 2 gives developers the essential tools to communicate with online services like Google, Flickr and Twitter, company officials said.

“We are continuing to improve our Web framework with HTML5 GeoLocation and video features, giving Real Studio developers more capabilities for richer, and increasingly dynamic, solutions,” said Geoff Perlman, founder and CEO of Real Software, in a statement.

“These, combined with WebSockets and JSON support, give Real Studio users the tools they need for faster, more powerful software development,” Perlman added.

WebSockets, one of the new enhancements, allow for a direct connection between the browser and the app. More efficient than HTTP/AJAX, these apps should scale better and be more responsive.

WebSockets are only supported by Safari and Chrome, and Real Studio apps will still work with other browsers using HTTP/AJAX. WebSockets are only supported for stand-alone Web apps, not CGI (News - Alert) Web apps.

WebMoviePlayer, another feature, will play a video file from a Web server. Using the WebMoviePlayer, users can specify a H.264 video or a Mobile WIFI .M4V and the browser will select which format is compatible and play it. If nothing is compatible, it will use Adobe (News - Alert) Flash Player to play the video.

Recently, Real Software announced that Eden FX, a large special effects studio in Santa Monica, developed an application with Real Studio to offer visual effects animation for The Social Network, Superman Returns and Lost. The tool was created by Eden FX's Executive Visual Effects Producer Steve Pugh.
