No Facebook Page? Study Shows Less than 50% of Retailers Have One

February 15, 2010
It’s no secret that Facebook (News - Alert) is at the toehold of the social media world. Recently surpassing over 400 million active users after only six years up and running, it seems like everyone I meet in the business or personal world says, “I’ll Facebook you,” rather than, “here’s my business card.”

But, while it seems every person, company and industry has some sort of Facebook page, it may be surprising to know that more than 50 percent of users who buy goods online are now on the social media page. Additionally, reports claim that amongst the shoppers who participate in social media, 81 percent use Facebook.

Only 50 percent? You’d think there’d be more since online shopping is such a boom lately.

A recent ForeSee Results study reported that only 25 percent of the top 100 online retailers have a formal Facebook presence, where as another 25 percent have less than 10,000 fans on Facebook.

While the report claims it’s a gross estimate, it still makes you wonder why more retailers aren’t jumping on the social media wagon in efforts to increase customer base and, thus, drive results.

Could it be that some don’t want to settle for the new social media world we all now seemingly live in? Or are they simply unaware of the benefits?

Maybe they should get a copy of the report, “Get a Facebook Page!”
