Zain Intros Novatel's Mobile Hotspot for High-Speed Internet Connectivity in 'One Network' Countries

December 23, 2009
Zain (News - Alert), a mobile telecom provider in the Middle East and Africa, will reportedly launch Novatel Wireless (News - Alert) MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot in Kuwait initially and has plans to extend this service to other operations as well in the future.

Officials with Zain said that it unveiled the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot device for high-speed Internet connectivity in “One Network (News - Alert),” which is world's first borderless mobile telecommunications network spanning different countries. All the other One Network countries will be covered in the future.

According to wireless broadband access solutions provider Novatel Wireless, its MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot has the capability to provide hi-speed wireless Internet connectivity for multiple devices. Representing a new category of mobile broadband device, MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot supports a rich application environment for both enterprise customers and consumers.

What’s more, the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot device provides freedom from Wi-Fi hotspots. This feature facilitates users to have Internet access anywhere and share that access with a set of devices. This is due to the fact that the MiFi platform creates a portable, personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be shared between multiple users as well as up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, MIDs, UMPCs, smartphones, cameras, gaming devices or portable media players.

Based on on-board Linux based operating system, the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot is capable of delivering mobile software applications as well as media. This provides support for applications such as automatic VPN connectivity and email synch.

Additionally, the device is also capable of supporting a wide-range of location-based applications and can also store personal content such as music, video and pictures with the help of internal, or ROM, storage, and up to 16GB of expandable memory via MicroSD.

Furthermore, the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot device features plug-and-play model, due to the fact that it does not require any type of installation or previously installed software.  Users can simply turn on the unit to connect to Wi-Fi enabled handsets or devices.

According to Zain officials, the company offers innovative services in its markets including One Network. The One Network platform spans 19 countries in Africa and the Middle East and facilitates customers to receive calls and SMSs without charge when abroad. It also allows them to make voice and data calls at local rates, thereby enabling them to top up airtime in their home country or from more than 1,000,000 outlets within Zain's One Network footprint.

Currently, Zain operates in the following countries: Bahrain, Burkina Faso, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malawi, Madagascar, Niger, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

“With its leading 'One Network' and broad customer base, Zain has the expertise and market leadership to ensure the success of the MiFi platform in Kuwait,” Rob Hadley, chief marketing officer, Novatel Wireless, said in a press release. “We look forward to working with Zain to provide our combined customers with the most cutting edge mobility solutions available in the Middle East.”

The company’s Kuwait customers who travel to any of the other 20 Zain One Network countries can additional advantage, due to the fact that they can use the new MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot at local Internet rates on an extremely fast Internet service.
