Switch and Data has completed an SAS (News - Alert) 70 Type II audit that included the company’s centralized Operations Service Support Center, Security Operations Center and human resources groups at its Tampa, Fla.-based headquarters.

 

The audits were administered and certified by SAS 70 Solutions of Tampa, one of the largest audit firms in the nation, and one that primarily concentrates in the delivery of SAS 70 audit services. This firm previously performed a SAS 70 Type I audit and certification for Switch and Data (News - Alert).

 

Switch and Data included its new site expansions in Dallas and Sunnyvale, Calif., in this audit. According to company’s sources, the three key areas for the SAS 70 Type II certification were operations and controls, physical security, and environmental security.

 

The company’s central customer-facing groups were also included in the SAS 70 Type II. These groups currently support all 34 data centers across North America.

 

These certifications compliment their site expansions, according to Switch and Data Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Ernie Sampera (News - Alert). They give their customers improved performance specifications combined with operational best practices.

 

As a result, the customers are able to deploy the latest high-density computing equipment, and access the various global and domestic network service providers, partners and customers present in Switch and Data’s established sites.

 

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants developed SAS 70 certification as an auditing standard to assess service providers’ internal processes and controls.

 

The audit assures the customers that the service provider has developed and implemented standard controls to manage its business and the delivery of its service.

 

Switch and Data provides network neutral data center and Internet exchange services. The company was in news last month, when Lavalife colocated its infrastructure in Switch and Data’s 151 Front Street data center in downtown Toronto, Canada.

 

Lavalife is consolidating its Toronto operations into one main office, and selected Switch and Data to house its corporate infrastructure to enhance resiliency and expand its network interconnectivity options.
