Swift Transportation Awards $ 24 million Contract to AT&T

May 05, 2009
Swift (News - Alert) Transportation Inc., a privately held long haul trucking company, has awarded AT&T a three-year contract valued at $24 million.

As part of the contract, AT&T (News - Alert) will provide Swift a unified voice and data network and a streamlined set of wireless solutions to help Swift offer improved customer service internally and externally, optimize IT expenses and increase revenue.

Disclosing this, AT&T officials said that Swift sought a wide-ranging set of communications services from the company to support its expansive business, which includes strong regional operations, a 17,000-truck fleet, an expedited transcontinental business and a comprehensive Intermodal transport package.

Officials said that AT&T as part of the agreement will provide a robust set of solutions, including Virtual Private Network (VPN) service to more than 125 corporate locations in the U.S. and Mexico and all wireless services for corporate and employee use.

Swift, by using AT&T's services and resources, expects to augment its own IT team, consolidate its contact centers’ voice and data traffic onto one network and centralize wireless and wireline applications.

"AT&T offers us the best technology roadmap, the most robust network and the opportunity to increase our business velocity," said Mike Ruchensky, CIO of Swift Transportation, in a statement.

“The ability to offer complete solutions to meet our communication needs and provide the security and reliability we sought made AT&T the clear choice for a long-term relationship," said Ruchensky.

Swift Transportation will also have around-the-clock access to real-time information about the performance of its networking services and a direct connection to electronic billing and ordering systems through the AT&T BusinessDirect portal.

AT&T in April had announced a fully managed private content distribution solution simplifying enterprises ability to deliver rich media assets behind the corporate firewall, such as live or on-demand video streaming or large multimedia files for download.

The service is immediately available and is targeted to companies of sizes ranging from large MNCs to mid-sized enterprises.
